Incredibly funny, always wearing the trendiest shirts (that he designs for LimoLand) and we must add he is incredibly popular. Jean Pigozzi, or as his friends (-and he has many) call him Johnny. Pigozzi is known for many things: an incredible art collector; having the biggest African art collection in the world, an entrepreneur and investor in high tech ecological research, he is also a world class party boy and being the inventor of the ‘group selfie’ gives him extra credit.
To celebrate the sixty years of Johnny’s Pool, where his legendary parties take place (at the famous Villa Dorane, in the French Riviera) the Gagosian gallery is exhibiting photographs that have never been seen before. Johnny’s guest include(d) Liz Taylor, Helmut Newton, Michael Douglas, Julian Schnabel, Diane von Furstenberg, even Zoe Kravitz. Johnny shares a beautiful friendship with Bono; who also wrote the foreword of his sold-out publication that accompanies the show and the profits will support RED’s fight agains AIDS (Bono’s Foundation).
One thing that certainly one notices, is not only the celebrities on the wall (and the countless that visit the show to see if their picture is hanging), but the sexy swimming mermaid figurines on the wallpaper that dresses the show.
Johnny’s pool is running until May 28.
