EXCLUSIVE: Sara McDonald and her jazz/rock orchestra

Elusive is honoured to feature the emerging artists Sara McDonald. Sara is a busy musician, writing for a 22 piece jazz/rock orchestra that plays shows throughout NY, Canada and Europe. Over the last year they have been recording their first album at various locations in New York City.

What’s the first thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning?
Work – how much of it I can and should do in order to aid the musical process/pay the bills/help the band/help myself/etc.

What makes you forget time?
Music (and wine)

If you could only keep three possessions, what would they be?
A good recording device
My orthopaedic insoles.
Herman (my pink stuffed dragon)

Who has influenced you the most?
It’s impossible to choose one person! At the end of the day I like to hear what everyone has to say, take it all into consideration, and then make my own decisions based on my own thoughts and the information I’ve gathered. But to be fair, influence seldom sways me. If I truly want to do something, I’m going to do it.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Don’t let the turkeys get you down.
