A new era in the history of Kunstmuseum Basel has just begun: a new extension designed by renowned Basel-based architects Christ & Gantenbein has risen across the street from the museum’s main building, to which it is connected by an underground passage.
The new gallery building will be inaugurated with a two-day celebration. On Sunday, April 17, and Monday, April 18, the public will enjoy free admission to all three venues, including the new special exhibition Sculpture on the Move 1946–2016 and the exhibition Barnett Newman—Drawings and Prints. Visit the food fair on the plaza between the main and new buildings and sample the diverse culinary specialties offered by numerous vendors from Basel’s Markthalle. All three buildings will be open on Sunday and Monday from 10am to 6pm.
Before the official opening photographer Kostas Maros was on the ground in Basel to provide you with some exclusive impressions from the building’s interior architecture.
