Elon Musk has unveiled the Tesla Model 3 at the company’s design studio in Hawthorne, California in front of a cheering crowd. With a price tag of 35’000$ the Model 3 is the most affordable Tesla yet and should bring electric cars to the mass market.
Why are we making the Model 3? Because we want to accelerate the transition to a future of sustainable transport. —Elon Musk
The cheapest version of the Model 3 will accelerate from 0-60mph in under six seconds and has an all-electric range of 215 miles. But according to Elon Musk there will be some “much faster” versions available.
The Model 3 has comfortable seating for five adults. The car comes with the standard front and rear trunk spaces, and can even fit a 7ft surfboard inside. All Model 3s will also come with Autopilot hardware. The newly designed sleek interior has a horizontally oriented 15inch central touch screen but no other screens or dials on the car’s dashboard (we suggest this is not the car’s final design). Furthermore Tesla claims the Model 3 is “incredibly safe” and should receive a five star rating in every testing category.
Deliveries of the Model 3 will/should start at the end of 2017.
