Vanishing Act

In the late summer of 2016 photographer Alessandro Zanoni spent six weeks in an uninhabited district of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, a city commonly known to be a ‘ghost town’. He lived – completely alone – in a 28 floors building. Living and working there was a volunteer act of detachment from the rest of the world. In the early morning he was used to drink coffee on the rooftop and one day a bright mist surrounded him while he was listening Vanishing Act, a song from The Raven, a concept album by Lou Reed released in 2003. That beautiful track talks about the desire to leave our phisical body, flying away. The following pictures depict that unreal landscape around Alessandro Zanoni and his thoughts, in that magical and timeless moment.
