FEATURED ARTIST: TANIA FONT

Tania Font’s own artistic portfolio primarily revolves around sculpture and painting, characterized by a notable focus on the human figure, particularly women. Her art delves into the exploration of subjective experiences, serving as a reflection on the construction and deconstruction of the feminine identity. It also addresses the complex relationship that women have with language, stemming from a long history of silences.

The artist has worked in set design for theater and television im numerous projects, as well as in the realization of hyper-realistic scientific scuptures for museums.

Tania Font is represented by Galeria Contrast from Barcelona, which will also show her artworks at this year’s Volta Art Fair in Basel. We took the opportunity to ask her 5 questions.

What’s the first thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning?
In which coffee bar I’m going to have breakfast with my dog and my book.

What makes you forget time?
Drawing, and try to made poems, sometimes poems with rhyme, and most of the time with no rhyme.

If you could only keep three possessions, what would they be?
Depends on the environment in the world that surrounds me… if I have to abandoned home in a hurry for some reason, I will take the picture of my grandfather, a white paper notebook, and a pencil. With that, I could go to the end of the world…. I think you could make a Reasonable case that a Mobile Phone helps you to carry this thing with digital tools, it has a pencil as well! It depends if the world already collapsed or something… but anyway, it is important for me to have something on hand to draw.

Who has influenced you the most?
In my life, my grandfather. In my work, Lluís Danés (a catalan filmmaker and a very creative person). Also, the sculpture artist Gerard Más, and my draw professor from the university… I don’t know, it’s a very difficult question.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Don’t try to understand what “been normal is”, just don’t bee a normal person.
