This year 286 carefully selected exhibitors from the world’s most important galleries converge at Art Basel 2024, solidifying its position as the leading world fair on the international art market. The abundance of masterpieces from the 20th and 21st century is truly exhilarating, making it a must-visit event each year across its locations on three continents.
Art Basel and its satellites now take place four times a year: in Hong Kong in March, in its home city of Basel in June, in Paris in October and in Miami Beach in December. With 160 galleries from 23 countries, the sister fair Art Basel Miami Beach made its debut in the USA in 2002. Eleven years later, Art Basel Hong Kong opened its doors. Known as Paris+ par Art Basel from 2022, the fair in the French capital has been renamed Art Basel Paris in conjunction with its forthcoming move to the Grand Palais.
Back in 1970, at the first Art, more than 16,000 guests visited the international art fair founded by a gallerist and two gallerists from Basel: Trudl Bruckner, Ernst Beyeler and Balz Hilt. Within two years, both the exhibition space and the number of visitors had doubled. 2024, over 80,000 guests are expected.
Since 1999, Art Unlimited has offered space for large-scale artworks such as sculptures, video projections and live performances. Today, Art Unlimited is the crowd-puller for all those who primarily want to look: 70 artists show their projects here – usually large-format and often also socio-political.
Don’t miss exploring the side fairs such as Volta, Photo Basel (now including Scope), and the young art fair Liste, for a comprehensive art experience.
