Now the secret is out: The hippest event next to Art Basel is taking place this year in the historic buildings of Bank Vontobel. Basel Social Club is moving to Rittergasse. This is what the Polish art gallery Gunia Nowik Gallery writes on its website. The event will take place this year from June 15 to 21 in the historic bank buildings at Rittergasse 21-25, according to the gallery owners. “We are delighted to be taking part in the Basel Social Club and presenting the sculptures of Daniel Rycharski and the drawings of Krzysztof Jung,” writes the gallery. The aforementioned works will be exhibited in a section called “erotic cabinet”.
One of Daniel Rycharski’s sculptural works apparently deals directly with the Basel Social Club 2025 venue “and its themes of value, trade and inequality”. The artist stages forgotten objects as valuable items. At the beginning of April, the Basel government announced that the Basel Social Club was moving “into the heart of the city”. No one has yet said exactly where. The organizers also neither want to confirm nor deny the Rittergasse location. However, it has been known for some time that Basel artist and curator Klaus Littmann will be creating artistic performances in the buildings from this summer. Now it should also be clear which program he is starting with.
