A new cookie shop in downtown Toronto is turning heads with its thoughtfully crafted interior that transforms a simple grab-and-go experience into something memorable. Located on one of the city’s busy commercial strips, the design by StudioAC creates an elegant solution for balancing efficiency with visual appeal.
The shop’s most striking feature is a series of curved elements that flow through the space like a gentle wave. These pink-stained plywood curves aren’t just decorative—they serve as a subtle wayfinding system, naturally guiding customers from menu browsing to ordering and pickup. The circular motif establishes what the designers call a “formal tangential relationship” with the existing walls, creating visual interest while maximizing the compact footprint.
Overhead, a curved storage bulkhead mirrors the counter’s flowing lines, creating an intimate pocket where customers and staff interact. This thoughtful framing transforms what could be a rushed transaction into a more personal moment, even within the grab-and-go format.
The material palette strikes a deliberate contrast between front and back of house. While the customer area features warm, custom pink-stained plywood that reflects the shop’s branding, the working bakery behind maintains a clean, industrial aesthetic with stainless steel surfaces. This duality allows patrons to catch glimpses of the cookie-making process while clearly delineating the operational zones.
StudioAC extended their design thinking beyond the interior to the packaging itself. The shop’s boxes and bags feature a gradient version of the signature pink that, when stacked on shelves, becomes part of the store’s visual merchandising. It’s a clever touch that ensures brand consistency from space to street.
The project demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate even the most utilitarian retail experiences. By using simple materials and a strong formal concept, the designers created a space that stands out on Toronto’s competitive commercial landscape while serving the practical needs of both customers and operators.
